On Friday September 27 Sanne Hensen successfully defended her PhD thesis. Sanne’s thesis entitled ‘The heat is on: HSF1 integrates cellular stress response pathways’ describes a series of studies that collectively demonstrate that the transcription factor HSF1 is involved in various pathways that can be activated in stressed cells as a result of different stress inducers. Since the HSF1 activity decreases with age, these findings have important implications for protein aggregation diseases, like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. We congratulate Sanne with her PhD degree.
